The Mummy MOT in Aberdeen.
Provided by three of the ReformPhysio & Pilates Physiotherapists, The Mummy MOT is one of our core services in our Aberdeen Clinic. All of us have had our own children and our own journey’s through postnatal recovery and these experiences were some of the biggest drivers for the team to train as Mummy MOT practitioners.
We believe that women deserve more support in managing and understanding their bodies postnatally and push back against the “bounce back” culture. There’s no one size fits all to postnatal recovery, everyone’s birth and recovery is so different!
Your Mummy MOT goals.
Through the Mummy MOT in Aberdeen we aim to support each individuals’ goals and use our knowledge and experience to educate and empower other women, whether that be returning to walking the dog without leaking, getting back to marathon running or being able to laugh through the tears without needing to use the toilet.
What is the Mummy MOT?
In ReformPhysio & Pilates your Mummy MOT is an individual 1 hour appointment for women after they have given birth, whether that be vaginally or by C-section. The Mummy MOT’s can be carried out any time from 6 weeks onwards (we don’t have an upper time limit, some women come for a Mummy MOT years down the line) and by the end of the appointment, we aim to provide you with a personalised postnatal rehab programme.
During your appointment we provide advice and education regarding any specific problems and look at things like:
Posture
Functional movement
Abdominal muscle function
Pelvic floor function
Your Mummy MOT appointment will vary depending on your goals, your individual needs, questions, concerns and any specific postnatal issues you want to talk about.
What is the pelvic floor exam?
We find that lots of women want to understand what’s happening in their pelvic floor but feel nervous about an examination. It's important that you know that you are in charge of your body and an internal exam absolutely doesn’t have to be done if you don’t want it! In some circumstances it may not be appropriate to assess your pelvic floor internally either and we have other ways we can assess this externally.
That being said, we want to banish any fear that women have around pelvic floor examination and work to educate around pelvic floor muscle function. So ask us any questions during your appointment! We completely understand any nerves or embarrassment you may feel but we have seen and heard everything before. That’s the truth. And if we had a pound for every time someone apologises for not having had a wax we would be in Mexico right now … (we really don’t notice promise!).
I need help with childcare for my Mummy MOT!
Babies are absolutely welcome to join us in the clinic and we will happily cuddle babies or rock prams during the assessment. Perks of the job and all that.
ReformPhysio & Pilates is based just off the Deeside line in Cults and is an excellent spot for prams or buggies and located near the Boxcar coffee & yard too, which can be super handy if you want to bring a granny/grandad/partner to walk the wee one or have a coffee and fancy piece during your appointment.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book your Mummy MOT using our online booking system and you can find that here.
